Saint Joseph's students are highly motivated and intelligent; they hail from more diverse backgrounds, traditions, and geographic locations than ever before. All students belong to the University's rigorous and challenging academic community, where they are encouraged to use intellectual as well as spiritual and moral values to shape and improve an increasingly global, technologically complex, and rapidly changing world.

Faith

Felecia Singh '07 will be a different kind of physician. She may be called "pediatrician" or "family practice doctor," but there will be something special beneath the label. Felecia will always be thinking about how she can assist the underserved, the disadvantaged, the marginalized. Saint Joseph's University, she says, helped strengthen her faith, shape her way of thinking, and magnify her passion.

"I was attracted to Saint Joseph's because of the Jesuit philosophy encouraging you to think for yourself. This university has a way of putting you 'in' experiences; you not only apply knowledge, you live it." For one class, Felecia went to the Dominican Republic as a medical missionary. For another, she visited with hospice patients to better comprehend death and dying. She also started an organization to mentor fifth graders about peer pressure, conflict resolution, diversity, and other issues. "Saint Joseph's University taught me about solidarity.

I know that if I put myself in someone else's shoes, I can be part of the solution."
