Strength

He believes Philadelphia is "the promised land for American historians." He also believes Saint Joseph's University is a place of academic strength, a place with a true sense of purpose. He is Randall Miller, Ph.D., holder of the William Dirk Warren '50 Sesquicentennial Chair and Professor of History. A formidable scholar who is nationally known as an author, editor, and consultant, Professor Miller has been teaching at Saint Joseph's since 1972.

"There's a real sense of respect for the human person at Saint Joseph's University, and there's an intensity about it," says Professor Miller. "I believe we are already among the preeminent universities in the Northeast because of the caliber of our faculty and the scholars we are able to attract. Significant academic work is happening here, and our students are its beneficiaries."

Energized by the constant interplay of ideas between and among faculty and students, Professor Miller says the Jesuit ideals make an SJU education distinctive. "They help us realize learning is an unfinished business - life is an unfinished business."
